Meet Andy Brown
We caught up with Andy following his return from the Youth Worlds.
Ed: Tell us about your 2016?
Andy: Winning the Youth Nationals and starting off the 2016 season as British Youth Champions was fantastic, I had achieved my first goal of the year! Selection to the Youth Worlds came later- after the European Championships in Helsinki. But before that I had my other important event of the season-The Class Youth World Championships at Limassol, Cyprus in November. Where I finished in tenth, a huge improvement to last years Worlds, where I made Gold fleet but ranked 44th Youth Male. This set me up for the Youth Worlds-which was only a couple of weeks after in Auckland, NZ where I finished 8th. Although not the result I truly wanted, It was the most useful event of my sailing career so far. I learnt a lot about important aspects of my sailing and it has got me pumped to go for a medal this year. The racing high-points were being in a medal position on day 2 and a second in the final race.
Ed: Following the worlds and in light of the attempting to retain your Youth Nationals crown in the spring, what sort of training plan do you have?
Andy: My training plan is intense and designed to peak in physically for my outcome event of the year - the Youth World Championships. I'm mostly Training and competing in the 9.5m Senior Class in order to get pushed. Next main event - Palma Princess Sofia Regatta
Ed: What made you decide that Lennon Racewear would be suitable for Windsurfing?
Andy - Great flexibility - which is key for efficient pumping and comfort and a wide temperature range over products - Which is key when I sail in the extremes like Scotland or NZ!
Ed: What are your aspirations for the next couple of years.
Andy - This year my main goals are Medalling at Youth level and transitioning into senior class sailing, after that my focus will shift entirely to progressing at senior level-Main Goal Aarhus World cup 201
